Etsy IP Report Wording

Etsy takedowns are filed through a form at etsy.com/legal/ip/report, not by email — so this template gives you the wording for the form's free-text fields. The difference between a 3-day removal and a rejection is usually specificity: a reviewer must be able to open your original and the copy side by side and see the match instantly.

When to use this template

  • Another Etsy shop is using your photos, listing text, artwork, or designs
  • You created the work (or hold the rights) — style similarity alone is not enough; Etsy only acts on copied work
  • For your brand name or logo being misused, file the trademark option instead (registration number expected)

The template

FIELD: Description of your original work
------------------------------------------
I am the creator and copyright owner of [DESCRIBE THE WORK — e.g., "the six product photographs and the description text used in my listing for a hand-thrown ceramic mug"]. The work was first published on [DATE] in my Etsy listing:

[URL OF YOUR ORIGINAL LISTING]

[OPTIONAL: "The original photo files, including camera metadata and edit history, are in my possession and available on request."]

FIELD: Description of the alleged infringement
------------------------------------------
The listing(s) below reproduce my copyrighted work without authorization. Specifically, [STATE EXACTLY WHAT WAS COPIED — e.g., "all six of my product photographs appear unaltered, and the first two paragraphs of my description text are reproduced verbatim"]:

- [INFRINGING LISTING URL 1]
- [INFRINGING LISTING URL 2]

[IF REPEAT OFFENDER: "This shop has previously been reported for copying my work (report submitted [DATE]). I request review under Etsy's repeat-infringer policy."]

CHECKBOXES: Sign both sworn statements
------------------------------------------
Confirm the good-faith statement and the accuracy statement (under penalty of perjury). Both are legally required — the report cannot proceed without them.

Replace every [BRACKETED] placeholder and delete sections that don't apply. This is a template, not legal advice.

How to use it

  1. 1

    One report per original work

Multiple infringing listings can go in one report if they copy the same work. If a shop copied five different products, file five reports — it also builds the repeat-infringer record.

  2. 2

    Use exact listing URLs

Link the specific listings, never just the shop's front page. Screenshot everything before filing — infringers delete and relist.

  3. 3

    Expect 3–10 business days

Etsy forwards your report's substance (including your contact info) to the seller, who may counter-notice. Keep the acknowledgment email for future reports against the same shop.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a registered copyright to report on Etsy?

No. Copyright exists automatically when you create the work. Etsy's copyright reports need proof you're the creator, not a registration certificate.

Will Etsy remove a listing that's just similar to mine?

No. Etsy explicitly declines to judge style similarity or product-category overlap. Reports succeed when your actual photos, text, artwork, or design files were copied.

Will the other seller know it was me?

Yes — Etsy forwards your name and contact information with the report, as the legal notice process requires. An authorized agent can file with their own details instead.
