Amazon Infringement Report
Amazon accepts IP complaints from any rights holder through its Report Infringement form — Brand Registry membership speeds things up but is not required. The form is mostly structured fields; this template covers the free-text description, which is where weak reports die. Say exactly what right is violated and how, in language a first-pass reviewer can verify in under a minute.
When to use this template
- Counterfeit versions of your product are listed on Amazon, or listings use your copyrighted photos/text, or your trademark appears on unauthorized products
- You know which claim you're making — counterfeit (trademark-based), copyright, or trademark misuse route differently
- For listing hijacking on your own ASIN, note the ASIN and the hijacking seller specifically
The template
AMAZON REPORT INFRINGEMENT — DESCRIPTION FIELD WORDING [VARIANT A — COUNTERFEIT (trademark-based):] We are the owner of the registered trademark [MARK] (Reg. No. [NUMBER], [JURISDICTION]), used on our [PRODUCT CATEGORY]. The ASIN(s)/listing(s) below offer counterfeit products bearing our mark. These products are not manufactured by us or by any authorized licensee, and the sellers listed are not authorized distributors. ASIN(s): [ASIN 1], [ASIN 2] Seller(s): [SELLER NAME / ID, if the listing is shared] [IF TEST BUY: "A test purchase completed on [DATE] confirmed the product is counterfeit: [SPECIFIC DIFFERENCES — materials, packaging, missing serialization]. Documentation available on request."] [VARIANT B — COPYRIGHT (stolen photos/text):] We own the copyright in the product photographs and listing text first published at [YOUR URL] on [DATE]. The listing(s) below reproduce this content without authorization: [STATE WHAT — e.g., "our five studio photographs appear unaltered"]. ASIN(s)/URL(s): [LIST] [VARIANT C — LISTING HIJACK ON YOUR ASIN:] We are the brand owner of ASIN [ASIN]. Seller [SELLER NAME/ID] has attached to this listing and is shipping product that is not our authentic [PRODUCT] — [EVIDENCE: test buy result, customer complaints, impossible sourcing]. We request removal of this seller's offer from our listing. CLOSING (all variants): I have a good-faith belief that the use described is not authorized by the rights owner, its agent, or the law. The information provided is accurate, and I am authorized to act on behalf of the rights owner.

How to use it
- 1
Pick the right claim type in the form
Counterfeit, trademark, and copyright route to different queues. Misrouting is the most common cause of slow or rejected reports.
- 2
Report sellers, not just listings, when relevant
On shared listings (hijacks), the offending seller's offer is the target — removing the listing would take down your own product page.
- 3
Enroll in Brand Registry if you have a trademark
Registry unlocks faster processing, proactive tools (Project Zero, Transparency), and bulk reporting. Without it, reports still work — they're just slower.
Frequently asked questions
Can I report counterfeits on Amazon without Brand Registry?
Yes. The Report Infringement form is open to any rights holder. Brand Registry accelerates processing and adds proactive tools but is not a prerequisite.
What evidence should I have ready?
Trademark registration numbers for counterfeit/trademark claims; your original content URL and dates for copyright claims; and ideally a documented test buy for counterfeit claims — it's the single strongest evidence Amazon accepts.
How fast does Amazon act?
Clear reports typically process in 1–5 business days; Brand Registry members often see same-day action. Escalate repeat offenders by referencing prior case IDs in each new report.
